Cannes Lineup Includes Pixar’s Soul and More
The Cannes 2020 lineup has been revealed, including Pixar’s Soul from director Pete Docter, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Steve McQueen’s Mangrove and Lover’s Rock among 56 movies that will be receiving the Cannes 2020 Official Selection label, according to Variety.

The lineup also includes Francois Ozon’s Summer 85, Naomi Kawase’s True Mothers, and Maiwenn’s DNA, as well as Jonathan Nossiter’s Last Words and Im Sang-soo’s Event.
While there won’t be a physical festival this year due to the pandemic, the selected movies will now have the opportunity to get world premieres thanks to partnerships between Cannes and other festivals. This includes San Sebastian, scheduled to run between September 18 and September 26, who has agreed to allow Cannes 2020 titles to screen in competition for the Golden Shell, its top honor.
“Cannes is the single most important brand for international arthouse audiences. Cinephiles around the world pay attention to what Cannes selects,” Andrew Frank, VP of sales and acquisitions at Mongrel Media told The Hollywood Reporter.
Cannes’ artistic director Thierry Fremaux revealed that the selection committee had received a record 2,067 features for consideration. The lineup reportedly includes 16 films directed by women, which is two more than last year’s selection.
