Josh Gad Opens Up About Possible Frozen III

Josh Gad Discusses Possible Frozen III

Josh Gad opens up about possible Frozen III

Last year saw fans finally treated to another magical adventure in Disney’s latest animated hit franchise, Frozen, and though the sequel couldn’t quite reach the critical heights of its predecessor, it was still generally well-received by critics and fans and was a box office smash, becoming the second highest-grossing film of all-time, keeping the question of whether a third film would come about open and now star Josh Gad has opened up about the possibility. In an interview with Pop Culture, Gad joked that “wouldn’t that be a great, non-sequitur just amazing announcement to make” to be able to announce a third film was on the way, but noted that “I don’t know.”

I mean, here’s the deal, Frozen II wasn’t Frozen II until there was a reason to exist,” Gad said. “And similarly, I don’t know if and when there will be a Frozen III. That’s way above my pay grade, but what I can tell you is this: There was an opportunity to take these characters and bring again a sense of hope and inspiration. And it’s why the team at Disney and I teamed up on the past couple of weeks to do At Home with Olaf […] And so the Frozen saga continues, even if it’s not necessarily in the form of a third movie. But we’ll see! If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day.

Frozen 2 saw the return of stars Kristen Bell (The Good Place), Idina Menzel and Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express), as well as the additions of Sterling K. Brown (This is Us) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld).

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough.

The film is helmed by Academy Award-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck with Peter Del Vecho serving as a producer. It also features music from Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

The first film was the smash hit of 2013, landing as the highest-grossing animated film of all-time and the highest-grossing film of the year with over $1.2 billion grossed worldwide. Frozen received rave reviews from critics and audiences, winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Let It Go,” which also reached the top five on the Billboard 100.
