Zendaya in Talks to Star in A24’s Ronnie Spector Biopic
Variety brings word that Emmy winner Zendaya (Euphoria, Dune, Spider-Man franchise) is in talks to portray the frontwoman of the musical group The Ronettes, Ronnie Spector, in an upcoming biopic of the musician’s life from A24 and New Regency. The star was apparently picked by Spector to portray her.

The biopic will reportedly place emphasis on Spector’s early career, particularly on the formation of The Ronettes group and their subsequent singing to Phil Spector’s Philles Records. While at the label, the band recorded their hit “Be My Baby,” and Spector eventually married the record producer. The film will also follow their eventual divorce and Spector’s battle to gain back the rights to her music.

A24 and New Regency have acquired Spector’s life rights, as well as her autobiography, Be My Baby, that was written by Spector along with Vince Waldron. The studios are possibly eyeing Pulitzer-winner Jackie Sibblies Drury to write the screenplay for the biopic.
