It Takes Two was lauded for its cooperative gameplay in 2021, even winning Game of the Year at 2021’s Game Awards (and coming close to the top in ComingSoon’s own list). However, Hazelight Studios is now taking that popular video game and turning it into a film or television series.
According to Variety, Hazelight is teaming up with dj2 Entertainment, a digital production company, to create something with It Takes Two. However, it appears as though the creators behind it don’t know if it will be a show or a film yet.
“Creating the world and story in It Takes Two was so much fun for me and the team,” said Josef Fares, Hazelight founder and the team’s creative director. “Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television.”

Fares is now known as a game director, but has directed films, television shows, and shorts in the past before he got his start in video games. Adapting video game franchises is also something dj2 Entertainment is known for and is working on the upcoming shows based on Life is Strange, My Friend Pedro, Disco Elysium, Tomb Raider, and more.
There is also no studio, network, or streaming service attached to the project. However, Variety’s sources say that there is currently a “multi-party bidding war” over which company will grab the rights. But it seems to have its writers as Pat Casey and Josh Miller, known for the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog movie and its upcoming sequel, are on board to adapt it.
