For the third time today, Amazon has prematurely leaked a full listing for an upcoming game. The retailer put up a new spot for the oft-delayed Dead Island 2, which is complete with screen shots, a release date, and story synopsis.

Deals person Wario64 once again posted the link on Twitter. The link reveals that the sequel is slated to come out on February 3, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S (a PC port is likely but not listed). The last-gen versions are listed at $69.99, meaning that it is taking a premium price point that is usually only reserved for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S-only games.

The screen shots also offer the only modern look at the game, which show the typical array of melee weapons and zombies. The images also show off the Los Angeles area, the game’s setting, from Venice Beach to Beverly Hills. According to the synopsis that’s also on Amazon, a deadly virus is turning the people into zombies, including the main characters. However, these special few are able to control it. It also promises a mix a horror, dark humor, and gratuitous zombie killing, much like the first game.
It’s also carrying over the co-op RPG nature of that game, too. There will be six customizable characters to choose from that have their own abilities and personalities. Combat is said to still be tactical and brutal and have zombies that “look and act realistically” and have “hundreds” of Los Angeles-specific variants.
Deep Silver and Dambuster Games have not acknowledged the listing. However, evidence of an imminent re-reveal was mounting. Insider Tom Henderson posted a video in February and feature on the game in August, saying that Deep Silver was planning to show off the game later this year. Embracer Group, Deep Silver’s parent company, also hinted that it was targeting a release in this current fiscal year which stretches to March 2023.

Dead Island 2, which was announced in 2014, has been a long time coming, long enough to for Goat Simulator 3 to parody it in a recent trailer. Techland, the team behind the first game and its spin-off, originally tried to tackle it before wanting to focus on Dying Light. Yager was then slated to develop the game before Sumo Digital took over, which was also taken off the project. It was then transferred to Dambuster Games, the team behind this most recent iteration. An old Dead Island 2 build from around 2015 also leaked online in 2020 and was likely from Yager’s time developing the game.
It’s possible that this reveal (and at least some of the others from Amazon) was being planned for Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live at Gamescom, which is slated to have reveals and new trailers when it airs on August 23.
