Following the news that Henry Cavill would be appearing in an upcoming Warhammer 40,000 project for Amazon Studios, Cavill took to social media to confirm the news, and expand on what it might mean.
In an Instagram post made over the weekend, Cavill confirmed the news, saying that he had dreamt of doing a Warhammer project for 30 years. After 22 years in the film industry, Cavill said that he now feels like he has both “the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life.”
Cavill went on to praise Vertigo’s Natalie Viscuso, who Cavil says he’s been partnering with, for helping guide the project to Amazon. Finally, Cavill sent a message to Warhammer fans specifically, saying he promised to respect the IP and bring everyone something familiar.
It’s important to note Cavill’s reference to a “Warhammer Cinematic Universe” as well, as the original story from The Hollywood Reporter referred to the project as a TV series with Amazon. However, their article also mentions the potential for both a TV and film play with the series, so perhaps the company is planning to fully branch out an entire Warhammer universe for fans.
First launched in 1987, Warhammer 40,000 is an interactive game where players use miniature models of warriors on a tabletop model of a battlefield. The game’s setting takes place in a distant future where there is an unending war involving humans, aliens, and supernatural monsters.
The project currently has no writers or showrunners attached to it. However, Vertigo Entertainment has already signed on as an executive producer.
