According to a recent report from Murphy’s Multiverse, Disney’s Ms. Marvel series on Disney+ was originally set to include multiple seasons right off the bat, which would’ve been filmed almost concurrently.
The report mentions that at the time of casting for the series, Disney intended to have whoever played Kamala Khan to film the first season of the show, star in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, and then quickly film Season 2 of Ms. Marvel right after. While Iman Vellani — who stars as Khan in the series — was eventually chosen for the role, there’s no indication that a second season is being filmed as of now.
Currently, Disney has offered up no plans for when or if a second season of Ms. Marvel will appear. However, both cast and crew on the first season have teased that a second could be coming. Despite the lack of a second season, Disney’s plans did almost come to fruition, with Vellani having worked on both the first season of the show before getting to work on The Marvels afterwards.
The report also goes on to mention that Vellani will be plenty busy beyond just working on the two projects, as she is expected to play “a rather pivotal role” in the upcoming fifth Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is likely due to her connection to the multiverse, a concept that the MCU is set to explore in greater depths in its upcoming slate of film and TV content.
The Marvels will see the return of Oscar winner Brie Larson as she reprises her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, who fans last saw in Ms. Marvel‘s post-credits scene. Joining Larson in the sequel are WandaVision breakout star Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
