Titled “The Magic Is Back,” the next episode of The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will showcase Pat Riley and Jerry West pushing for a risky trade when Earvin’s return threatens the Lakers’ new “system.” We’ll also see Jeanie butt heads with her brothers while Coach Westhead fights for his team, and a melancholy Buss tries to bring in a figure from his past.

As the series title suggests, Winning Time takes us through the origin of the LA Lakers dynasty and tells us how the team became so successful. Season 2 takes place less than a year after season 1 ended when the Lakers became the champions in 1980. Many team members will be seen dealing with problems in the season, such as Magic Johnson’s sex addiction and Jerry Buss’ tense relationship with his daughter.

If the Lakers wish to compete against the Boston Celtics, they must put those problems behind them and continue their success story. The ensemble cast of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty includes John C. Reilly, Adrien Brody, Jason Clarke, Quincy Isaiah, Sally Field, and Jason Segel, among many others.

“Season two continues to explore the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. This season hones in on the period just after the Finals in 1980 through 1984, culminating in the first professional rematch of the era’s greatest stars: Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.”
