While the rest of these titles arrive September 29, Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit Blu-ray and DVD Friday, October 2
Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the top entertainment titles hitting this week on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming platforms. Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at the major new releases, catalogue titles and television collections hitting shelves and/or VOD beginning Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
Marvel’s super heroes assemble later this week, however, as Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts on Blu-ray and DVD this Friday, October 2. September 29 brings us quite a few recent big screen releases of its own, though, with films like Paul Feig’s action comedy Spy, director Gil Kenan’s loose remake of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist, and the big screen take on HBO’s popular Hollywood series, Entourage: The Movie. There’s also Aloft, the Claudia Llosa drama starring Cillian Murphy and Jennifer Connelly, Unexpected, Kris Swanberg’s comedic drama starring Cobie Smulders, and Cop Car, the finely crafted thriller from Jon Watts, the future director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man movie.
For younger audiences, this week sees the arrival of the direct-to-home-video animated feature Monster High: Boo York, Boo York.
Previously only available in a long out of print limited edition, September 29 brings us a wide release of Christine, John Carpenter’s 1983 killer car classic.
Flicker Alley has a real treat for cinephiles with Unseen Cinema: Early American Avant-Garde Film 1894-1941, an impressive collection that includes nearly seven hours of important experimental works spanning from Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand’s 1921 short, “Manhatta” to Stan Brakhage and Phil Solmon’s 2002 “Seasons…”
The Criterion Collection has two different HD upgrades arriving September 29. A Room with a View delivers a Blu-ray version of the film, previously released in Criterion’s unnumbered Merchant Ivory DVD collection. Meanwhile, Leonard Kastle’s The Honeymoon Killers (once named by Francois Truffaut as his “favorite American film”) gets the full HD treatment.
On the small screen, September 29 brings us the second half of the first season of Starz’s Diana Gabaldon adaptation, Outlander, the fourth season of NBC’s Grimm and, on DVD only, the first seasons of both ABC’s amusing Asian American experience sitcom Fresh Off the Boat and The CW’s Vertigo Comics series, I, Zombie, developed for television by Veronica Mars‘ Rob Thomas.
Available only via DigitalHD this week is Warner Bros. Pictures’ found footage tale of terror, The Gallows.
