Tyler Perry talks potential return as a mutated Baxter Stockman in Ninja Turtles 3

Could Baxter Stockman be returning as a mutant in a rumored third TMNT film? Tyler Perry (Gone Girl, the Madea movies), who plays the frustrated scientist in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, shied away from confirming he’d be coming back to the franchise — but he didn’t rule it out.

When we asked if the absence of the characters’ signature robot creations the Mousers signaled there was still more to see from the character, Perry said: “Could be, could be, it’ll be pretty interesting to see what happens.”

A childhood fan of the heroes in a half shell, Perry again touched on his possible return by referencing Stockman’s eventual mutation in the popular 1987 cartoon series. “Maybe the fly is coming, I don’t know, we’ll see,” Perry hinted.

When asked if he took cues from any famous scientists for his performance, Perry said that famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson was his main inspiration for Stockman, calling Neil “a brilliant man” and saying “I totally exaggerated the nerd in him, but I was totally feeling him.”

Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang, voiced by Brad Garrett.

The original film, which opened in theaters on August 7, 2014 and was directed by Jonathan Liebesman, grossed more than $485 million at the worldwide box office.

Directed by David Green, Paramount Pictures‘ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opens in theaters on June 3.
