The Shallows, Warcraft, The Neon Demon and lots and more come home September 27
Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the top titles arriving this week on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at the major new releases, catalogue films and television collections hitting shelves and/or VOD beginning Tuesday, September 27, 2016.
We’re kicking off the week with clips from two new September 27 releases that you can check out in the players at the bottom of this page. In the first, we’ve got a deleted scene from the 20th Century Fox comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Then, in the second player, we’ve got a scene from Rob Connolly’s Edge of Winter, starring Suicide Squad‘s Joel Kinnaman and Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland. Edge of Winter comes home this week on DVD only.
If you missed it’s debut last Friday, click here to watch the first ten minutes of Taika Waititi’s delightful adventure Hunt for the Wilderpeople, available this week on DVD.
Other recent big screen releases include the Stephen King adaptation Cell (which reteams John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson), the spy comedy Central Intelligence (starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart), Nicolas Winding Refn’s stylish and melodic horror tale The Neon Demon (starring Elle Fanning), Jaume Collet-Serra’s shark thriller The Shallows (starring Blake Lively) and Duncan Jones‘ video game adaptation Warcraft. There’s also, on DVD only, the rom-com Who Gets the Dog?, starring Ryan Kwanten and Alicia Silverstone.
Shout! Factory delivers a packed-with-special features double feature of both Bill and Ted films with the new Bill and Ted’s Most Excellent Collection. They’ve also got the debut of the recent animated feature Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom and, joining the Scream Factory label, Frank LaLoggia’s Lady in White. The 1988 supernatural thriller arrives with both cuts of the eerie tale.
Music Box Films releases a Blu-ray of Anne Fontaine’s recent WWII drama The Innocents, while the supernatural action classic Highlander gets a brand-new transfer for a 30th anniversary edition.
The Criterion Collection delivers Krzysztof Kieslowski’s ten-part The Dekalog as a boxed set while also bring home (separately) both Mark Robson’s 1967 melodrama Valley of the Dolls as well as Russ Meyer’s 1970 sequel, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
Lionsgate is relaunching the classic Vestron Video label this week with deluxe editions of 1986’s Chopping Mall and 1987’s Blood Diner. If that’s not enough horror, there’s also a new edition of John Landis’ An American Werewolf in London (boasting a pristine new transfer), Arrow‘s new restoration of the 1988 creature feature Slugs and Unearthed Films‘ deluxe take on the 2015 giallo Francesca, packaged with the film’s original soundtrack CD.
Warner Archive is also getting in on the Halloween fun with three new double feature DVD-R reissues of their out of print Val Lewton collection. Look for The Leopard Man / The Ghost Ship, Isle of the Dead / Bedlam and The 7th Victim / Shadows in the Dark. There’s also a new DVD release for Tobe Hooper’s 1995 The Mangler as well as one for the 1991 manga adaptation The Guyver (starring Mark Hamill).
Stepping outside the horror genre, Warner Archive also brings to HD Clint Eastwood’s 1997 mystery Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which arrives on Blu-ray for the first time ever September 27.
Leading the small screen charge this week is The Film Detective‘s Blu-ray debut of 1955’s Patterns. Boasting a screenplay by Rod Serling, Patterns originally aired as part of Kraft Television Theater and earned the Twilight Zone creator his first Emmy.
Barbarians Rising brings home the History series with September 27 also delivering to Blu-ray and DVD both the fifth season of NBC‘s Grimm and the fourth season of the BBC‘s Ripper Street.
Hitting DVD only is the first season of ABC‘s The Catch and the third season of The CW‘s Reign. Meanwhile, Cartoon Network offers up the second season of Mike Tyson Mysteries and, continuing their “Hall of Fame” series, the third season of Courage, the Cowardly Dog. If Power Rangers are more your style, though, September 27 also delivers the latest collection of episodes, Power Rangers Dino Charge: Rise.
Rounding out the week’s television titles is Shout! Factory‘s Mystery Science Theater 3000 Vol. III re-release. Since taking over the rights and releasing new sets, Shout! has also been backtracking and reissuing the long-out-of-print collections published by Rhino. Volume III includes The Atomic Brain, The Unearthly, The Sidehackers and the second volume of MST3K shorts.
Debuting via Digital HD the week of September 27 is Paul Feig‘s new Ghostbusters, the Roland Emmerich sci-fi sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, the animated adventure Ice Age: Collision Course and Joshua Marston’s mystery thriller Complete Unknown, starring Rachel Weisz.
