ComingSoon.net rides the new Star Tours at Disney World!
Disney Parks invited ComingSoon.net to come out to Orlando, Florida’s iconic Disney World to get a first-hand look at the planet Crait extension to the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue 3D motion ride, based on scenes from the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Fans can ride the Starspeeder through the middle of an epic battle in the updated attraction, which is now open at Disneyland park and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Read about our experience on the new Star Tours below, and check out exclusive photos of our two trips on the ride (and through the gift shop) in the gallery!

When the ride/3D movie starts, C-3PO (onscreen) and R2-D2 (offscreen) are the pilots of our Star Tours vessel, and we’re in an imperial hanger bay where to screen left we can see The Ghost from Star Wars Rebels, and directly in front of us Rey and BB-8 board the Millennium Falcon. Both the Falcon and our ship exit the hanger and lightspeed over to Jakku, in a version of the flight through the wrecked star Destroyers from The Force Awakens. John Boyega appears on another screen as Finn, helping us navigate through and blasting a few tie fighters for us.
We saw two versions of what happens next during the two times we went on the ride: In one version, Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o), in her jet pack and holding a big gun, tells us where to go, and in another Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) gives us our mission and tells us there’s a spy on board. Our mission is to planet Crait, the newest planet from The Last Jedi. In a flyover, we see a horde of vulptex, the crystal fox-looking creatures seen in the trailer. Then we fly over a mountain and see the landspeeders leaving a trail of red dust behind as they (and we) head towards a lineup of First Order AT-AT walkers, as well as a few old school imperial walkers. As we fly towards them, we see both Poe and, then, General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) on our sidescreen. Hux issues a warning that we shouldn’t have come and he will destroy us. Just before we hit the walkers our windscreen gets covered in red crystal dust, and we have to use our windshield wipers before we can see the battle from up high. A laser blast takes down one of the armored walkers, then C-3PO tells us our mission is finished.
We jump to lightspeed and arrive at our final destination, planet Batuu, a.k.a. the planet currently being built around Disney World’s Hollywood Studios that will open in 2019. It looks just like the models and concept art that have been out for several years, but brought to vibrant, colorful life. We enjoyed both go-arounds on the new Star Tours, and can’t wait to ride it again the next time we come to the park!
