Big-screen adaptation of The Dry casts Eric Bana to star
Jane Harper’s novel The Dry is getting adapted for a feature film, and Eric Bana is set to star. According to Deadline, the Dirty John actor will play Aaron Falk, a man who returns to his hometown after twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend. As Falk continues to investigate the cause of his friend’s death, he uncovers a vast conspiracy that could clear his late friend’s name, but put his own life in danger.
Robert Connolly (Balibo, Paper Planes) will direct the Australian production, based on a script written by him and Harry Cripps (The Magic Pudding, Paws). Bruna Papandrea (Big Little Lies, Gone Girl), Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky will be producing. Both Bana and Connolly serve as executive producers alongside Ricci Swart and Andrew Myer.
“I am incredibly excited to be part of the team bringing this thrilling and evocative novel to life. I love the journey of Falk, and can’t wait to bring him to life, along with my dear friend Rob Connolly,” Bana said about the project.
“It is very important to me that the nature and depth of Falk shines through and I feel Eric Bana will fully capture that. Director Robert Connolly has done an excellent job in writing a script that captures the essence and tone of the novel and its characters. Producer Bruna Papandrea has an outstanding track record and I’m very excited that she will be spearheading this film,” said Harper about the upcoming adaptation of her best-selling novel.
Production is set to begin in February in Victoria, Australia. Roadshow Films will distribute the film in Australia and New Zealand.
