HBO reveals details on Game of Thrones reunion special
After the speculation on whether or not it was being produced, HBO has revealed that a reunion special for its mammoth hit franchise Game of Thrones has indeed been shot and, as they’ve done with many of the later seasons, will deliver it to fans at a later time than they desire, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The special, which was shot in Belfast earlier this year, will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and will feature the return of actors from previous seasons, and aside from Ned Stark performer Sean Bean (The Martian), it’s unsure which performers will return for it. While EW reported that Khal Drago actor Jason Momoa (Aquaman) was in the area during the supposed time of filming the special, it’s unclear if he will return as he has been known for set visits to see his former fellow stars.
Fans might be excited by the idea of seeing their favorite cast members, alive or dead (fictionally), reunite, but they’ll have to temper their expectations as the premium cable series also announced that the special will not air on the network, but rather will be included with a Complete Series box set containing seasons 1-8 that is set for release sometime next year after the end of the the final season.
Audiences will finally get to see the end of the epic fantasy journey as the final six episodes of Game of Thrones debuts in April 2019 after an almost two-year hiatus between the seasons.
At the end of last season, Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragons and her immense army were finally on the way to Westeros, where Cersei (Lena Headey) has now become Queen after the death of her children. The Night King’s (Vladimir Furdik in Season 6) army is heading south, and a battle appears to be imminent.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will air in April of 2019 on HBO. It likely won’t be our last trip to Westeros, however, as HBO has greenlit a pilot set 1,000 years before the events of the wildly popular sword and sorcery epic. Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have been cast in the prequel series.
