Hulu’s The Great casts Gwilym Lee in key role
The upcoming Hulu series The Great has cast Gwilym Lee in a starring role. According to Deadline, Lee will play the role of Grigor, the best friend and confidant of Russian emperor Peter, played by Nicholas Hoult.
The historical drama will chart the rise of Catherine the Great, played by Elle Fanning, and her explosive relationship with husband Peter. In addition to starring Fanning is also executive producer with Marian Macgowan.
The Great is written and executive produced by Tony McNamara (The Favourite) and directed by Matt Shakman (Game Of Thrones). Lee will be joining the previously announced stars including Phoebe Fox (Eye in the Sky, One Day), Sacha Dhawan (After Earth, Iron Fist) and Charity Wakefield (Bounty Hunters, Sense & Sensibility). The pilot is currently being filmed in Yorkshire, England.
Lee most recently starred as guitarist Brian May in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which has proven to be a hit for FOX Studios. He also appeared in the Sky One series Jamestown, and will also appear in the upcoming Australian rom-com Top End Wedding.
