The series, which will comprise of 18 animated shorts, will be aimed towards adults with stories that go across every genre from science fiction, comedy, fantasy and horror, including imaginative characters such as sentient dairy products, werewolf soldiers and robots gone wild.
Miller, who previously was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for the 2004 animated short Gopher Broke, will be returning to his animation roots with the series and while not confirmed, it’s presumed he will more than likely utilize his animation company Blur Studio, while the team will also consist of filmmakers from around the world and feature various animation styles including traditional 2D and photorealistic CGI.
“Love, Death & Robots is my dream project,” says Miller, who will exec produce with Fincher, Jennifer Miller and Josh Donen. “It combines my love of animation and amazing stories. Midnight movies, comics, books and magazines of fantastic fiction have inspired me for decades, but they were relegated to the fringe culture of geeks and nerds of which I was a part. I’m so fucking excited that the creative landscape has finally changed enough for adult-themed animation to become part of a larger cultural conversation.”
Miller previously worked with Fincher as the designer for the opening credits sequence on the 2011 American adaptation of the acclaimed 2005 Swedish novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Fincher will be collaborating with Netflix for the third time with Love, Death & Robots following House of Cards, which debuted its sixth and final season in November 2018, and Mindhunter, which reportedly wrapped filming on its highly-anticipated second season.

Fincher is set to begin production on the sequel to the 2013 apocalyptic hit World War Z in June, while Miller, who wrapped production on the upcoming Terminator reboot in November, is currently attached to direct an adaptation of the cyberpunk sleeper hit novel Neuromancer for Fox.
Love, Death & Robots comes at a time when Netflix is making a large push in its animation field, already having the acclaimed animated hits BoJack Horseman and Big Mouth and having upcoming animated adaptations of Carmen Sandiego, which is set to debut on January 18, Fast & Furious, Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon and Ghost in the Shell.
