Aladdin flies high with $207 million global opening
Walt Disney Pictures’ Aladdin debuted with the #3 opening for the year, earning an estimated $86 million for the three day weekend and $105 million through the four-day Memorial Day weekend. The film opened with $121 million internationally for an estimated global opening of $207 million (excluding the Monday estimates for the US).
Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum slipped to second place, but managed to bring in $24.35 million for the three day weekend and an estimated $30.5 million for the four day weekend, pushing it to a domestic total of $107.9 million and exceeding the domestic total for John Wick: Chapter 2 ($92 million in 2017). Internationally the film added $24.8 for an international total of $74.4 million and a global total of $175.3 million.
Avengers: Endgame fell to third place, adding $16.8 million for the three day weekend and an estimated $21.9 million through Memorial Day. Tomorrow will see the film cross the $800 million mark at the domestic box office, making it just the second film to cross that threshold. Internationally the film added another $15.3 million for a global weekend of $32.1 million, giving it an international total of $1.879 billion and a global total of $2.677 billion.
Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Detective Pikachu fell to fourth place with $13.3 million for a domestic total of $116 million. The film’s international total now sits at $236.8 million and $352.9 million globally.
