Amazon gives series order to sitcom from Travy Oliver, Amy Poehler

According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has officially given a 10-episode series order for executive producer Amy Poehler’s upcoming female-led sitcom which is created by Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver. The series will be produced by Poeher’s Paper Kite Productions in partnership with Universal TV.

The untitled half-hour long comedy (formerly titled Harlem) will follow the story of four black women – friends from their college days at NYU – as they navigate sex, relationships and chasing their dreams.

“This series is a dream project for me,” Oliver said in a statement. “I found the perfect partners in Amy Poehler, Amazon Studios and Universal, who have championed this project from the beginning. I can’t wait to get started and share the story of these four women navigating the complexities of adulthood through their unbreakable friendship.”

The series is written by Oliver, who will also be serving as an executive producer alongside Poehler, Kim Lessing of Paper Kite and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky.

“We are huge fans of Tracy and have long admired her work,” Amazon Studios’ Co-Head of Television, Vernon Sanders said. “She’s an incredibly talented writer and producer, and we’re thrilled to work with her on a project that reflects the kind of inclusive, joyful creative content we want to be involved with at Amazon Studios, and that our Amazon Prime Video customers want to see. We’re also so excited to be in business with Amy and Paper Kite. Jen Salke and I have known Amy for many years, and we’re so pleased to have the opportunity to work with her again.”

Oliver is currently working on another series which is the upcoming TV adaptation of the First Wives Club with Grammy winner Jill Scott, Ryan Michelle Bathe (This Is Us) and Michelle Buteau (Key and Peele) set to lead the series. It is expected to debut on BET’s new streaming service called BET+
