The tremendously popular indie game Cuphead is getting turned into an animated series. The series will be executive produced by C.J. Kettler (Carmen Sandiego) on behalf of King Features, while the brothers that created Cuphead, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, will serve as executive producers for Studio MDHR. Emmy and Annie award winner Dave Wasson (Mickey Mouse Shorts) will also executive produceCosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling) will also serve as co-executive producer, while Netflix animation will produce.

The game, which was released in 2017, sports a look inspired by the classic (and terrifying) Max Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s and has sold over 4 million copies since then. It also took home Best Indie Game at the 2017 Game Awards as well as a BAFTA Games award.

It’s the first example of King Features plan to expand its character franchises across more media entertainment outlets, which it first announced back in February. Several iconic characters, including Popeye, Archie and Garfield, are also owned by King Features.
