Inspired by the short-lived, but beloved show from the ’80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

Brie (CommunitySleeping With Other People) stars along with Betty Gilpin (Nurse JackieTrue Story) and Marc Maron (Almost FamousMarc Maron: Thinky Pain). Breeda Wool (UnRealMr. Mercedes) has also signed on for a recurring role in Season 3 alongside Geena Davis. GLOW was created by Liz Flahive (HomelandNurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse JackieOrange Is The New BlackWeeds). Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann executive producers alongside Flahive and Mensch who are serving as showrunners.

“We have a full story to tell and whether or not we’re idiots for not giving ourselves an ending this season remains to be seen,” Flahive told THR. “We’ve played it this way every season, where we’ve sort of left it all on the field. This show has a big heart and a big cast and big story to tell, and other people are not going to set that limit for us. We can’t do that, because it wouldn’t be fair to what we’re trying to do. We’d love to have the opportunity to give the show a satisfying ending.”

“They have sort of screwed themselves by making the model be that there is no model — that they have to reinvent the wheel every season,” Gilpin said of a fourth season. “So I hope they are hard at work reinventing the wheel. Because this is the greatest job ever, and I want to do it again and again.”

This marks the second Netflix series Davis has joined in the third season, as she will also voice Huntara in She-Ra and the Princess of Power. She recently concluded her multi-season run as Dr. Nicole Herman on Grey’s Anatomy.

The fourth and final season will consist of ten episodes, while no premiere widow has been announced.
