Disney Plans to Fix The Simpsons Aspect Ratio Problem in 2020

Disney plans to fix The Simpsons aspect ratio problem in 2020

Those of you angered by formatting issues with The Simpsons on Disney+ will be happy to learn that the streaming giant plans to correct the problem “in early 2020,” according to a statement released by the Mouse House (via JoBlo). Hey, what do ya know? An online petition comprised of angry fans actually resulted in positive change!

For those unaware, last week’s unveil of Disney+ included all 30 seasons of the still very popular TV series The Simpsons with one minor problem: nearly 400 early episodes, which were produced in a 4:3 ratio, had been cropped to the more modern 16:9 ratio. Doing so resulted in the loss of several sight gags and stoked the ire of fans everywhere. Luckily, Disney has sought fit to fix the problem, and even released an official statement on the matter.

“We presented The Simpsons in 16:9 aspect ratio at launch in order to guarantee visual quality and consistency across all 30 seasons. Over time, Disney+ will roll out new features and additional viewing options. As part of this, in early 2020, Disney+ will make the first 19 seasons (and some episodes from Season 20) of The Simpsons available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio, giving subscribers a choice of how they prefer to view the popular series.”

Well, there you have it. Problem solved. Now, where the hell is Indiana Jones?
