The Gentlemen Series in the Works From Miramax & Guy Ritchie
Following The Gentlemen‘s theatrical release earlier this year, Deadline brings word that director Guy Ritchie has teamed up with Miramax TV to develop a new TV series based on Ritchie’s action comedy film that was led by Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey. The English filmmaker has signed on to write and direct The Gentlemen series. The film’s producers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies will also return to serve as executive producers along with Ritchie. Further details about the project’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.
“Miramax Television is thrilled to break new creative ground in our partnership with Guy Ritchie on The Gentlemen,” Miramax’s Head of Worldwide Television Marc Helwig said. “One of the most distinctive and prolific filmmakers working today and someone whose creativity I have admired for many years, we couldn’t be more excited to bring the cinematic journey of The Gentlemen forth into the realm of global premium television.”

The Gentlemen (formerly titled Toff Guys) follows American ex-pat Mickey Pearson (McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery, and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him Ritchie’s signature visual cocktail will be served with an abundance of fun. Ritchie wrote the script with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson.
The film starred Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Hugh Grant (Four Wedding and a Funeral), Collin Farrell (Widows), Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim), Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes). The Gentlemen also features Lyne Renee, Chris Evangelou, Eugenia Kuzmina, and Jason Wong.

Ritchie is coming off from the massive blockbuster success of his live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. His other notable film credits include Sherlock Holmes films, Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
