Archive 81 Trailer Previews Netflix’s Next Supernatural Thriller Series

Netflix has dropped the official Archive 81 trailer for the forthcoming supernatural thriller, which will be led by Emmy nominee Mamoudie Athie and Dina Shihabi. The series will make its debut next week on January 14.

The video, which you can check out below, highlights two split timelines connected through a series of videotapes. It features two characters as they get suddenly get involved in a dangerous investigation about the dark secrets of the Visser building.

Archive 81 is an original story loosely inspired by the popular podcast of the same name. The horror drama stars Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion), Dina Shihabi (Daredevil), Martin Donovan (Tenet), Matt McGorry (How to Get Away with Murder), Julia Chan (Katy Keene), Evan Jonigkeit (Sweetbitter), and Ariana Neal (Hidden Figures).

“It follows archivist Dan Turner, who takes a job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994,” reads the synopsis. “Reconstructing the work of a documentary filmmaker named Melody Pendras, he is drawn into her investigation of a dangerous cult at the Visser apartment building. As the season unfolds across these two timelines, Dan slowly finds himself obsessed with uncovering what happened to Melody. When the two characters form a mysterious connection, Dan becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”

Archive 81 is executive produced by Rebecca Sonnenshine, and The Conjuring Universe creator James Wan, with Sonnenshine also set as the showrunner. Michael Clear of Atomic Monster, Rebecca Thomas, Antoine Douaihy, and Paul Harris Boardman are also executive producing.
