Alan Ruck: Ending Succession With Season 4 Is the Right Move

HBO’s hit series Succession is set to come to an end following its fourth season, and while fans may not want to see the show come to an end, star Alan Ruck thinks it’s the right time to bring the series to a close.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Ruck — who plays eldest son Connor Roy in the series — said that he’s glad the series isn’t trying to outstay its welcome, and that everyone involved with the series has known things were ending since last year. According to Ruck, it’s better to end the series on their terms rather than draw things out to an unnecessary degree.

“The truth is, we’ve all known on the show since June,” Ruck said. “And I think it’s the right time to end it in terms of the struggle to see who’s going to take command of this empire. A fifth season would have been drawn out, and if it just faded away, that would have been a disgrace.”

Succession follows the story of the Roy family — Logan Roy and his four children — who control one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. The series tracks their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them once their aging father begins to step back from the company.

The series stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Alan Ruck, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Hiam Abbass, Peter Friedman, Matthew Macfadyen, Rob Yang, Dagmara Dominczyk, Arian Moayed, J. Smith-Cameron, Justine Lupe, David Rasche, and Fisher Stevens.

The Emmy-winning series is created and executive produced by showrunner Jesse Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy, and Will Ferrell.
