The beginning of the end of the Fast & Furious franchise is almost here, with Fast X set to arrive in theaters in a few months. While Paul Walker’s character won’t be appearing in any new scenes, star Vin Diesel did tease that they have something in store for his character.
Speaking to Total Film, Diesel said that following Walker’s death in 2013, the studio behind the franchise made the decision to keep his character, Brian O’Connor, alive. While O’Connor hasn’t been seen in the films since his farewel in Fast 7, Diesel did tease that the Fast & Furious saga wouldn’t end without saying goodbye to Brian.
“That moment in 2013 when the world was struggling with his loss, the studio made a very bold and righteous and daring decision to keep Brian O’Conner alive,” Diesel notes to Total Film(opens in new tab). “I will give you this without spoiling anything: I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without truly saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner.”
Following the release of Fast X on May 19, 2023, the Fast & Furious franchise will have just one film left, an eleventh entry that is set to end the “Fast saga” and is currently in development. As of now, no release date for Fast & Furious 11 is available.
Fast X is being directed by Transporter director Louis Leterrier, who took over the role from Justin Lin after Lin suddenly exited the project due to creative differences. The film is written by Lin and Dan Mazeau, with Lin still attached as a producer
