Emmy winner Jay Roach to helm Wolff’s Fire and Fury TV series
Emmy Award-winning director Jay Roach (Game Change, Recount) is set to direct the television adaptation of Michael Wolff’s best-selling book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.
Fire and Fury tells the inside story of Trump’s first year as president based on Wolff’s exclusive access to the White House. The book was published in January, debuting at #1 on the New York Times best-seller list. It became the fastest-selling nonfiction book in the publisher’s history after more than 1.4 million hardcovers were on order and 700,000 copies shipped in less than a week. The success of the book, as well as Wolff’s access and detail, placed Fire and Fury in high demand for an adaptation.
Fire and Fury is described as follows by its publisher:
“The first nine months of Donald Trump’s term were stormy, outrageous—and absolutely mesmerizing. Now, thanks to his deep access to the West Wing, bestselling author Michael Wolff tells the riveting story of how Trump launched a tenure as volatile and fiery as the man himself.’
“In this explosive book, Wolff provides a wealth of new details about the chaos in the Oval Office. Among the revelations:
— What President Trump’s staff really thinks of him
— What inspired Trump to claim he was wire-tapped by President Obama
— Why FBI director James Comey was really fired
— Why chief strategist Steve Bannon and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner couldn’t be in the same room
— Who is really directing the Trump administration’s strategy in the wake of Bannon’s firing
— What the secret to communicating with Trump is
— What the Trump administration has in common with the movie The Producers’
Never before has a presidency so divided the American people. Brilliantly reported and astoundingly fresh, Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury shows us how and why Donald Trump has become the king of discord and disunion.”
Endeavor Content purchased the film and television rights to Wolff’s controversial best-seller in January in a deal that was reportedly in the seven-figure range. Wolff will act as an executive producer on the series with veteran Channel 4 and BBC executive Michael Jackson, the CEO of indie producer Two Cities Television. John Lyons (Boogie Nights, The Young Pope) will executive produce alongside Roach who is developing the series outside of his first-look deal with HBO.
A network has yet to be attached to the drama. The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
