Deadpool 2 opens to over $300 million worldwide

20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool 2 arrived in theaters worldwide this past week and the highly anticipated sequel has brought in an estimated gross of $125 million domestically, just short of the first film’s opening weekend in 2016 of $132 million. Worldwide however the film has outperformed its predecessor, bringing in an additional $176 million from international markets for a worldwide total of $301 million. The first Deadpool debuted to just $264 million at the worldwide box office. Deadpool 2 also managed to snag an “A” Cinemascore from audiences, putting it on par with the first movie.

The film has already managed to break a number of records around the world, including the previously announced Best Thursday Previews for an R-Rated Film and Best Opening Day for an R-Rated Film, but now there are even more records left in the dust by the Merc with a mouth. Deadpool 2 has also become Fox International’s biggest opening of all time, beating out previous record holder X-Men: Days of Future Past with $174 million (which included an additional $38.3 million from China), and has become the industry’s biggest opening ever for an R rated film, surpassing Logan‘s $160 million (which included $49.7 million from China).

The David Leitch-directed film stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.

Next up is Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War, which managed to rustle up another $100+ million at the global box office, including $28.7 million domestically. The film has also crossed $300 million to date in China after just 10 days of release, making it the #4 western release of all-time in the market. Infinity War‘s global cumulative total is $1.814 million, cementing it as the #1 MCU/superhero film of all-time. Internationally, Avengers: Infinity War is now already the highest grossing release in industry history in Brazil, Central America, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Latin America as a region, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India (western), Thailand (western) and Vietnam.

The Anthony and Joe Russo-directed film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.

Debuting in third place domestically was Paramount’s comedy Book Club, which opened to a modest $12.5 million. The counter-programming to Deadpool 2 and Infinity War stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson with Andy Garcia and Don Johnson. Book Club was written and directed by Bill Holderman.

New Line Cinema‘s comedy Life of the Party dropped from second to fourth place this weekend, bringing in an additional $7.7 million and bringing its domestic total to $31 million The film was directed by Ben Falcone and stars Melissa McCarthy, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Molly Gordon, Stephen Root, and Jacki Weaver.

Universal Pictures thriller Breaking In fell to fifth place with a total of $6.47 million, bringing its domestic gross to $28.75 million. The movie’s budget was just fraction of its total gross so far, sitting at just $6 million. Directed by James McTeigue, Breaking In stars Gabrielle Union, Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Seth Carr, and Ajiona Alexus.

Finally, Global Roads’ family comedy Show Dogs opened to $6 million. The talking dog movie stars Will Arnett and Natasha Lyonne and features the voices of Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordin Sparks, Gabriel Iglesias, Shaquille O’Neal, Alan Cumming, and Stanley Tucci.
