UnREAL Season 4 premiering on Hulu for final season
Lifetime’s original series, UnREAL, will be premiering its fourth and likely final season on Hulu first instead of at its original home at Lifetime, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Hulu has been the SVOD home for UnREAL and the streamer reportedly paid producers A+E Studios a larger sum for the rights to season four in order to secure the first run for the drama. Sources familiar with the deal say that the series “remains a popular binge-worthy show on Hulu.” UnREAL may still air on Lifetime, though it is not expected to return until 2019 and under the new deal season four is expected to debut on Hulu far before it runs in a second window on Lifetime.
Following the early renewal of season four last year, production on the upcoming season began in October 2017 and wrapped in January 2018. The premiere dates for seasons three and four on Hulu has not yet been announced.
UnREAL gives a fictitious behind-the-scenes glimpse into the chaos surrounding the production of a hit dating competition program, Everlasting. UnREAL is led by flawed heroine Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby), renowned for her skills manipulating her relationships with, and among, the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage that the program’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn King (Emmy-nominated Constance Zimmer), demands.
Season three features Everlasting’s new feminist “suitress,” Serena (Caitlin FitzGerald, Masters of Sex), who is determined to have her pick of eager male suitors. Co-created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro and produced by A+E Studios, seasons three and four are helmed by showrunner and executive producer Stacy Rukeyser. UnREAL season three is also executive produced by Shapiro, Robert M. Sertner, Sally DeSipio, Peter O’Fallon and David Solomon.
