John Malkovich and Rupert Grint join The ABC Murders

Deadline reported that John Malkovich and Rupert Grint have joined The ABC Murders, an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel of the same name. Malkovich will take on the role of Detective Hercule Poirot with Grint playing Inspector Crome.

Sarah Phelps is adapting the original classic in a three-part series drama for BBC One’s collection of Agatha Christie’s stories. The ABC Murders continues the partnership between BBC One and Agatha Christie Limited, where we will expect to see several more Christie adaptations in the future.

The ABC Murders is set in the 1930s, a time when Britain is dangerously divided and suspicion and hatred are on the rise. In this story, we see see Poirot face a serial killer known only as A.B.C. As the body count rises, the only clue is a copy of The ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene. Poirot’s investigations are continuously thwarted by an enemy determined to outsmart him. If Poirot is to match his nemesis, then everything about him will be called into question: his authority, his integrity, his past and his identity.

Malkovich and Grint join a cast that includes Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), Bronwyn James (Harlots), and Freya Mavor (The Sense of an Ending).

Alex Gabassi (The Frankenstein Chronicles) is directing The ABC Murders. The executive producers are Phelps, Damien Timmer, and Helen Ziegler for Mammoth Screen, Prichard and Basi Akpabio for Agatha Christie Limited, and Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC. Farah Abushwesha (Irreplaceable You) is producing the drama.

Filming for The ABC Murders will begin in June.
