Netflix’s The King starts production in the UK
Netflix has announced that production has officially begun today on their new original film, The King. Cameras are rolling in the UK on the production which is expected to be released on the streaming service in 2019.
The King stars Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird), Joel Edgerton (Bright, Loving, The Great Gatsby), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Macbeth), Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One, Bloodline), Robert Pattinson (Good Time, The Lost City of Z), Lily-Rose Depp (The Summoning, The Dancer), Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk) and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Leave No Trace).
Netflix’s The King is inspired by elements of Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V. It follows a young, disgraced prince, Hal who inherits the crown and must learn what it means to be a king, guided by his one true friend, Falstaff.
Joel Edgerton will be playing Falstaff in the film, guiding Chalamet who will be playing Hal. Pattinson will take on the role of The Dauphin with Mendelsohn playing King Henry IV. Lily-Rose Depp will step into the role of Princess Catherine with Sean Harris as William, Tom Glynn-Carney as Hotspur and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie as Philippa.
David Michôd (War Machine, Animal Kingdom) will be directing from a script he co-wrote with Edgerton.
Academy Award-winning Plan B will produce along with Porchlight Films’ Liz Watts (Animal Kingdom, The Rover), Edgerton and Michôd.
