A+E Networks’ docudrama Spy Wars lands Damian Lewis to star
While Damian Lewis has made a name for himself in dramatic roles in shows like Homeland and Billions, the actor will star in the new docudrama Damian Lewis: Spy Wars. According to Deadline, the A+E Network series will tell the unbelievable true stories behind some of the most important international spy operations of the last 40 years.
The show will use reconstructions of real-life events, with Lewis acting as the guide throughout each episode, telling a different spy story from the Cold War through to the ‘war on terror’ and the renewed espionage hostilities of the present day. It will feature experts and former spies including ex-Mossad, ex-CIA, ex-KGB and ex-MI6, and will be shot on location in Moscow, Israel and London.
“We’re thrilled to have Damian Lewis on History for his first foray into factual television and with the ramping up of intelligence activities on all sides, and renewed tensions between East and West, there can be no better time to explore some of the most iconic spy operations of recent years,” said Dan Korn, VP of Programming at A+E Networks UK.
Spy Wars is a co-production between A+E Networks UK and its parent company, A+E Networks. It’s produced by Alaska TV, the British production company responsible for series including BBC Earth’s Fishing Impossible and Channel 4 comedy series Very British Problems. Alaska TV’s Chris Fouracre, Ian Lamarra, Paul Sommers and Gareth Lewis will serve as executive producers.
The eight-part docudrama is slated to air later this year on History.
