The Oscars In Memoriam segment predictably leaves out key names

Every year, the Academy Awards sets aside a couple minutes for its In Memoriam segment, paying tribute to those in Hollywood who’ve passed on over the last calendar year. As it happens every year, certain names were left out entirely, and this year it forgot some doozies.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, the omission of actress Carol Channing was the most conspicuous. She had a lengthy career that spawned TV and film, and was nominated for an Oscar herself for her work in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Others omitted this year included Sondra Locke, another former nominee, this time for The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. Character actor Dick Miller, who had appeared in more than 100 films over his lengthy career, including The Terminator, Gremlins, and a long history of collaborations with producer Roger Corman, was also left out. As was Emmy nominee Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards), along with Vern Troyer (Austin Powers), R. Lee Ermey (Full Metal Jacket) as well as John Mahoney (Frasier).

Although, there is a bit of a conceivable excuse for not including Mahoney, as the actor only passed away on Thursday, a few days before the ceremony. Still, his omission — like all those listed — can be frustrating for fans. While it can be difficult to make room for everyone who works in showbiz to get their few seconds on the In Memoriam reel, some of those left off this year were particularly glaring.
