Christina Applegate ‘highly doubts’ an Anchorman 3 will ever happen
Sad news today, San Diego. In a recent interview with Pete Hammond on The Actor’s Side (via JoBlo), Christina Applegate remarked that an Anchorman 3 is unlikely to happen. Actually, the Married with Children and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead actress said, “I highly doubt it, at this point. Now that (Adam) McKay has got some Oscars on his shelf I don’t know if we’re going to go back and revisit Anchorman.”

Applegate, who played Veronica Corningstone alongside Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy in 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and its 2013 sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, was discussing her film resume, including the upcoming Netflix series Dead to Me, when the topic turned to some of her past work. Namely, the aforementioned Anchorman, which no one thought would end up as popular as it did.
“No. We really had no idea,” Applegate said. “That was [Adam] McKay’s first movie that he directed and Will had not starred in anything since SNL, so no one really knew what was going to happen.”
She went on to note that the film was not a hit upon initial release, and that it found its audience on cable and home video, which allowed it to grow “into a cult classic.”

At that point, Hammond brought up the potential of a second sequel, to which Applegate expressed her doubts. Though, on the bright side, she threw in a hopeful nugget, saying, “I would never say never, though. Honestly, working with those boys is the highlight of my life. My boys were the most genuine, incredible, respectful, just … talented group of dudes.”
The original Anchorman brought in $90.6 million worldwide, while its sequel totaled $173 million.
Dead to Me will be available on Netflix Friday, May 3rd.
