Netflix brings Belgian crime drama Undercover to global audience

Netflix is bringing the Belgian crime drama Undercover to audiences around the globe. The10-part crime series about two undercover agents who prepare themselves for the longest and most dangerous mission of their career. Their task? To befriend this gangster and his entourage, seduce him to set up a deal and ultimately wind up his network.

Undercover takes place in the Belgian province of Limburg, the so-called ‘Colombia of ecstasy,’ where more than 500 million pills with a street value of $2.25 billion are exported every year. As a result, the region also suffers from exploding drug labs, executions in broad daylight and chemical waste dumps. This is where Undercover comes in, telling its fictional story about real problems.

European drama has attracted everyone’s attention. The series stars Tom Waes, Anna Drijver, Frank Lammers and Elise Schaap, and is based on an original idea by executive producer Jan Theys (SalamanderProfessor T.), and was created under the direction of showrunner Nico Moolenaar (Missing Persons Unit). De Mensen’s Ivy Vanhaecke executive produces along with Van Huyck.

De Mensen produced Undercover in co-operation with Netflix, VRT, Proximus, ZDF, Federation Entertainment, Source Investment/Dutch Filmworks, Good Friends, Gardner and Domm, Gallop and the Tax Shelter incentive of the Belgian government.

In February 2019, the series premiered on Belgian public broadcaster VRT, scoring a market share of 52%. It will premiere globally on Netflix Friday, May 3.
