The recently released Spider-Man: No Way Home featured many big moments that may affect the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but perhaps none were bigger for Spider-Man than what happened in the post-credits scene.

Following the end of the film, a post-credits teaser showed Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote in a bar, fresh off of being teleported into the MCU following the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. As Brock and Venom try to understand the story of Thanos that the bartender is telling them, they are suddenly teleported away, seemingly back into their universe as a result of Doctor Strange’s spell that helps close out the film. However, a small piece of the symbiote remains, setting up the inclusion of Venom into future Spider-Man films inside the MCU.
Speaking to Variety, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s screenwriters Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna spoke about the inclusion of Venom into the film and noted that they even had bigger plans for the character than just being taken back into his universe. The pair confirmed that they had “definitely discussed” including Venom in the final fight sequence of the film, but eventually decided against it.
“The first draft, we bit off more than we could chew,” says Sommers. “Maybe some would argue that we still bit off more than we can chew.”

The pair was then asked about how Tom Hardy’s Venom, who had never met Peter Parker before in the Venom films, could know who Parker was at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
“The idea is that the symbiote has knowledge of other universes,” McKenna said. “Buried in his brain is some knowledge of that connection.”
Whether or not Venom or Tom Hardy will ever appear alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in a film is unknown, but it seems as if the seeds have been planted for the symbiote to find a new host inside of the MCU.
