After the explosive last few episodes, Demon Slayer Season 2 ends on a quieter, much more emotionally poignant note. The highlight of this episode, by far, is the backstory we finally get to see on the sibling duo of Daki and Gyutaro.

The sibling’s story is by far the most tragic Demon Slayer has told yet, showing the history that warped Gyutaro into the sadistic demon he’d become. Demon Slayer may have a predictable formula of making each of its villains sympathetic, but the Entertainment District Arc is proof that it’s working. It makes each battle feel that much more meaningful when the show builds an understanding of what drove these people to this point, and it makes the ultimate villain Muzan Kibutsuji feel more menacing for taking advantage of them.
While the bulk of the finale builds on the demon siblings, we also get some nice development on the relationship between Tanjiro and Nezuko, and this episode shows how the two have grown to be supportive of each other. This arc has seen a lot of growth for Tanjiro as a person, especially in how he accepts help from Nezuko and doesn’t simply feel like it’s his duty to protect her. In all, it’s nice to see Nezuko given a bit more agency as things go on.
As you might expect from a finale, we also get to see a few glimpses of where things will be heading in the future. It quickly becomes clear that another Hashira is out of the picture with Uzui, who’s taken too grievous of wounds to keep fighting. This starts to create a tense future for the Demon Slayer Corps as their number keeps dwindling, while Muzan can always make more demons. It ends the series on an interesting note, one that seems a bit more hopeful than where we left things at the end of Mugen Train.

The finale of the Entertainment District Arc delivered on emotion and manages to wrap up the new season in a satisfying way. With the second season now in the rearview mirror, its breakneck pace and absolutely stunning animation have definitely cemented Demon Slayer as one of the very best ongoing shows in all of anime.
