Michael B. Jordan Playfully Responds to Superman Casting Rumors

Prior to the shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios, a Superman project starring Michael B. Jordan was said to be underway at HBO Max. When he was recently asked about the project’s current status, however, Jordan played it coy and didn’t say too much.

During the premiere of his recently released film Creed III, the role of Black Superman was brought up to Jordan by Entertainment Tonight. The star was quick to deflect away from the subject, jokingly asking who said he was playing Superman before saying that he hadn’t even heard any rumors about that.

“Who said that? Who said that? You said that,” said Jordan. “I didn’t say that. I don’t even know about no rumors about that one.”

Rumors of a Black Superman film started after it was announced that Ta-Nehisi Coates was writing a Superman reboot with J.J. Abrams producing under his Bad Robot label. However, that film was said to have been a different one from the project Jordan was working on, which would see him play the role of Val-Zod, the Superman of Earth 2, and not the more well-known Kryptonian Kal-El.

However, following the shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery and the promotion of James Gunn and Peter Safran to co-heads of DC Studios, it’s unclear what the future holds for any previous projects. Just earlier this year, Gunn announced that he would be writing a Superman film, with no stars or plot information available as of yet. With that Superman set to be one of the main heroes in the new DC Universe, whether or not Michael B. Jordan gets to suit up as the hero is left unknown.
