After a busy start to 2023, where he headlined The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal has found his next project. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pascal has signed on to join the cast of Weapons, Zach Cregger’s new movie.
What to Expect in Weapons?
Plot details, along with Pascal’s character, are being kept under wraps. However, the report describes Weapons as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”
Weapons is Cregger’s first project after the success of Barbarian, the 2022 horror breakout hit written and directed by Cregger. Made for an estimated $4.5 million, Barbarian went on to gross over $45 million, receiving waves of critical acclaim from the film community.
Weapons will be written and directed by Cregger, who will also produce alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures, and Miri Yoon of Vertigo. New Line won the project in a bidding war that reportedly surpassed eight figures. The film will also receive an exclusive theatrical release.
Pascal will soon head to the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Pedro Almodóvar’s short film Strange Way of Life. Pascal stars in the short alongside Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone). The Mandalorian star is also readying for production of Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated Gladiator sequel, starring Paul Mescal (Normal People).
