Arrested Development season 4 chronological cut to debut May 4
The fourth season of Arrested Development was long awaited by fans of the FOX comedy series, but the episodes that arrived on Netflix back in 2013 (after a seven-year hiatus) had some viewers hearing the downbeat Charlie Brown music.
When it premiered, Arrested Development‘s fourth season had episodes focused primarily on a single character from the ensemble, with very few other members of the cast appearing, and told out of order to the larger story of the season. Now, series creator Mitch Hurwitz has announced that Arrested Development Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences will debut later this week featuring the 15 singular episodes recut into 22 interwoven episodes.
“The original season four of Arrested Development on Netflix, as some of your know, experimented with a Rashomon-style of storytelling with each episode dedicated to the adventure of one member of the Bluth family,” Hurtwitz wrote in a statement. “The goal was that by the end of the season, a unified story of cause and effect wild emerge for the viewer – full of surprises about how the Bluths were responsible for most of the misery they had endured… I also pursued it as a comedic experiment to see if new jokes and a new perspective would emerge from a remix that features all the Bluths in every episode, and where the simultaneity of the story plays out chronologically. And I’m really excited about the final result. It’s funny in a whole new way, and I believe it creates a really entertaining and hilarious new experience for the ‘viewer.’ And I only call you that because I don’t know how to pronounce your last name.”
Hurtwitz goes on to confirm that the fifth season of the series, told in the traditional style of the series that fans were eager for, will be coming to Netflix soon. But in the mean time, have a Happy Cinco De Cuatro with the chronological cut of Arrested Development season 4!
Arrested Development centers around Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) and his eccentric family comprised of his son George Michael (Michael Cera), his father George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), his mother Lucille (Jessica Walter), his brothers George Oscar Bluth II (Will Arnett), Buster Bluth (Tony Hale) and sister Lindsay Funke (Portia de Rossi), and Lindsay’s husband Tobias (David Cross) and their daughter Maeby (Alia Shawkat).
Mitchell Hurwitz, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Jim Vallely and Richie Rosenstock are executive producers on Arrested Development, and it is produced by Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox Television for Netflix. Arrested Development has garnered accolades from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmy), AFI, the Golden Globes, Producer’s Guild Awards, Screen Actor’s Guild, the Television Critics Association and the Writer’s Guild, among others.
