Danny Boyle Has A ‘Properly Good’ Idea For Another 28 Days Later Movie

28 Days Later sequel

Danny Boyle has a ‘properly good’ idea for another 28 Days Later movie

Since Danny Boyle left Bond 25 in his rearview after the oft-cited “creative differences,” the director has been kicking around an idea for a 28 Days Later sequel, per an interview he did with The Independent. And he’s got Alex Garland interested, who wrote the original 2002 horror film.

Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part, it’s properly good,” Boyle began. “The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all. He’s concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really, but it’s a you-never-know.”

This isn’t the first time Boyle has flirted with the idea of returning to the zombie-strewn world of London. He first mentioned an idea back in 2008, while both he and Garland mentioned it again in 2015.

The initial 2002 film, directed by Boyle and starring Cillian Murphy, saw a ‘rage’ virus infect the UK (get your copy by clicking here!). The 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later, starred Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Idris Elba, Jeremy Renner, and Imogen Poots and saw the UK attempt to rebuild. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed.

Boyle’s current film, Yesterday, about a world where only one person can remember the music of The Beatles, opens in theaters June 28.
