The movie-length episodes of the 12-part series stream monthly, with each installment centering on a holiday that takes place within that respective month. While each episode is inspired by a holiday from the month of its release, they all feature Blumhouse’s signature genre/thriller spin on the story.
The series, which premiered in October 2018, has received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, with earlier film/episodes garnering higher reviews as they progressed, with the sixth installment “Treehouse” from James Roday (Psych) earning the lowest of the bunch.
The anthology has attracted a large ensemble of directors and actors alike, with Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3D), Nacho Vigalondo (Colossal), Roday, Sophia Takal (Black Christmas, available here) and Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) helming various segments.
The series’ ensemble cast includes Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express), Ray Santiago (Ash vs. Evil Dead), Aurora Perrineau (When They See Us), Dermot Mulroney (Insidious: Chapter 3), Diana Silvers (Ma), Suki Waterhouse (Detective Pikachu), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve), Natalie Martinez (UglyDolls), Matt Lauria (Shaft), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Mary McCormack (The Kids Are Alright), Maggie Lawson (Lethal Weapon), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Michael Weston (Gravy), Keir O’Donnell (Ray Donovan), Hayes MacArthur (Angie Tribeca), Samantha Mathis (The Strain), Israel Broussard (Happy Death Day 2U), Frank Whaley (Hustlers), Clayne Crawford (Lethal Weapon) and Shawn Ashmore (The Rookie).
