First Wives Club Series to Debut On BET’s New Streaming Service
Following the First Wives Club‘s move from Paramount Network to BET, TVLine reports that the upcoming series adaptation of the 1996 Paramount film of the same name will now be making its debut on BET’s new streaming service called BET+. Starring Grammy winner Jill Scott, Ryan Michelle Bathe (This Is Us) and Michelle Buteau (Key and Peele), the series is scheduled to premiere this fall.
From the President of BET Networks Scott Mills: “African Americans are the leading consumers of streaming services, with higher SVOD adoption rates than other consumers, which is why we’re so excited to launch a premium product for this underserved audience. BET+ is a natural extension of BET’s linear network, which has been the leading home of black culture for decades. Our curated catalog and original programming will keep the BET+ content offering fresh, fueling subscriber growth, viewership, and retention.”

The series, like the film, will also be based in New York City and will follow the story of three women: Ari (Bathe), a stylish and confident type-A attorney who sidestepped her career to support her husband’s political ambitions; Bree (Buteau), a music superstar who has faded from the limelight; and Hazel (Scott) a overwhelmed mom and doctor who hasn’t let loose in years. They will band together after their marriages fall apart while finding strength in their sisterhood and of course a little revenge.
