Back in June, Ubisoft revealed that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition was going to be included in Far Cry 6‘s season pass, but never announced when it was coming out. In September, the company gave a vague December release window for the remaster of ’80s-infused shooter, but still no specific date. Ubisoft has still yet to give an exact date, which is quite peculiar since Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition stealth dropped in the middle of the night on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Game Store.

Those who haven’t purchased the Far Cry 6 season pass can pick it up for $14.99. However, it appears as though there is only a version for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, meaning there’s no native PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S edition. An ESRB listing for the game does list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, but it’s not clear if they will see the light of day. Aside from the general power boost games get from running in backwards compatibility mode, Blood Dragon Classic Edition does not appear to be one of the special games like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, or even Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that run significantly better on the new hardware in backwards compatibility mode.
It did seem likely that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition would be releasing imminently, as Gematsu found the listing on the Japanese PlayStation Store on December 8 with a release date for December 15. Then on December 15, users from around the world began to report that it was on their region’s PlayStation Store. The game’s trophies and achievements also started popping up online on sites like Exophase, which is usually the sign that the game in question is near release. The lack of current-gen version was also hinted at in the aforementioned list on Exophase, as the Xbox version only listed the Xbox One version. Cross-gen titles with Smart Delivery show the Xbox Series consoles in the label as well.

Ubisoft is still not done with Far Cry 6‘s season pass. The second expansion, Pagan: Control, is slated for January. The DLC’s trophies and achievements have been live for that for about a week, too. The final premium expansion, Joseph: Collapse, is supposed to come out in March. The Danny Trejo, Stranger Things, and Rambo crossover missions are still planned, but are not part of the season pass and will be free for all owners.
