HBO’s The Last of Us series targets July 2021 production start
According to CBC Canada, HBO is planning to start production on their highly-anticipated live-action series adaptation of The Last of Us this coming summer on July 5 in Calgary, Alberta. Filming is expected to be wrapped next year on June 8, 2022. This comes after Game of Thrones alums Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were officially enlisted to portray the leading roles of Joel and Ellie, respectively.
The project was first announced last year in March, just before the launch of Naughty Dog’s long-awaited follow-up game The Last of Us Part II which was finally released in June. The sequel became one of the best and fastest-selling PlayStation 4 games with over four million units sold during the weekend of its release.

It will be co-written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who is the game’s writer and creative director. Kantermir Balagov is attached to direct the pilot episode. The project will also served as a reunion between Mazin and Johan Renck, who have previously worked together on the acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl.
