Highly-anticipated, Peele’s next film with Universal continues to highlight inclusive genre stories with the industry’s top diverse talent. Universal studio chair Donna Langley, as quoted on Deadline, shared her excitement in committing to more work with Monkeypaw, “Jordan has established himself as a premier voice and original storyteller with global appeal. He is leading a new generation of filmmakers that have found a way to tap into the cultural zeitgeist with groundbreaking content that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds,” said Langley. “We also share an important goal with Monkeypaw when it comes to increasing representation on-screen in the characters that are portrayed, the stories that are told, and the people who tell them.”
Adding Yuen to the mix of talent for his next film gives us a preview of the powerhouse ensemble Peele is putting together for Monkeypaw’s theatrical slate. The film will follow up the studio’s next release: Nia DaCosta’s Candyman, which was moved from its 2020 opening to ideally be one of horror’s big cinematic returns to the movie theatergoing experience later this year.

Peele and Monkeypaw became the production house to watch with 2017’s Get Out. Marking Peele’s directorial debut, the film received universal acclaim from critics and audiences. It made Universal over $255 million worldwide at the box office and saw Peele become the first Black winner for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars, while also garnering nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. It was followed up with 2019’s Us. Peele will also produce the untitled film alongside Ian Cooper for their Monkeypaw Productions with a release date of July 22, 2022.
