Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci adds Salma Hayek to A-list cast

As production continues on House of Gucci in Italy, Ridley Scott has added another A-list star to its ensemble cast with Oscar nominee Salma Hayek signing on for the true crime drama as Pina Auriemma, who was the clairvoyant friend of Maurizio Gucci’s ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, portrayed in the film by Grammy winner and Oscar winner Lady Gaga.

“So happy to have my good buddy Salma join our wonderful cast,” producer Giannina Scott said in a statement (via Deadline). “I’ve been talking with her about this Gucci project for 20 years. Now it’s happening and she is a part of it. Rid and I are thrilled.”

The film is based on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 novel The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed that used the murder to delve into the complex yet dishy family history, filled with infighting, corporate intrigue and gobs of money. Gucci, the grandson of Guccio Gucci, ran the company in a declining period in the 1980s after wrestling it out of his uncle’s hands.

House of Gucci will be led by Gaga (A Star Is Born) as Maurizio Gucci’s ex-wife and mother of his two daughters, Patrizia Reggiani, who was tried and convicted for orchestrating her ex-husband’s murder on the steps of his office in 1995. Despite her children’s pleas to the court and public to reevaluate her mother’s case as the operation drastically changed her behavior, she was portrayed darkly in the media, being dubbed the Black Widow and was sentenced to 29 years before being let out early in 2016 after only 18 years.

Alongside Gaga are Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci, Jeremy Irons as Rodolf Gucci, Jack Huston as Domenico De Sole, Reeve Carney as Tom Ford and Camille Cottin as Paola Franchi. Mădălina Diana Ghenea, Mehdi Nebbou, and Miloud Mourad Benamara have also been cast for the roles of Sophia Loren, Said, and Omar, respectively.

The film is directed by Scott from a screenplay written by Roberto Bentivegna, with Ridley and Giannina Scott set to produce through their Scott Free Productions banner alongside Kevin Walsh. House of Gucci is currently set for a November 24 theatrical release.

On top of this project, Hayek has two more high-profile films lined up this year including Marvel Studios’ upcoming MCU film Eternals and the action-comedy sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
