It may look a little bit like an at-home foot spa, but the forthcoming family-friendly Intellivision Amico is picking up steam as it heads toward an October launch, with the company dropping a bunch of information about their launch plans.
The Amico will launch in the United States and Europe on October 10 in four colors. $249 will net you a console in black or white, $279 gets you a woodgrain model, and a “Galaxy Purple” edition will also drop for $299. Each system comes with two controllers and can support up to eight for extreme multiplayer play. Smartphones can also tag on as additional controllers, via a downloadable app.
Each console will come with six pre-installed games, including Intellivision Skiing, Cornhole, Farkle, Astrosmash, Shark! Shark! and one as-yet-unannounced title.
Also available at launch, the Amico Game Shop will provide over 20 additional titles spanning several genres. In Europe, digital games will start from €5.99, while the US site says most games will range from $2.99 – $9.99. The most unexpected news is that eight of the titles are being made available through traditional retail channels as “Special Editions” in physical form for €17.99 each. Those eight titles are Evel Knievel, Biplanes, Moon Patrol, Missile Command, Rigid Force Redux Enhanced, Finnigan Fox, Dynablast, and Brain Duel. As is the policy for the platform, all games will be rated E10+ or lower by the ESRB and will contain system-specific features. Details over what these special editions will contain over the digital versions that are a third of the price have not yet been made available.
Players will be able to get their hands on no less than ten different controller skin packs, each of which contains three skins. An official Intellivision console bag that can hold your console and two controllers will also be available on day one.
We’re awaiting US pricing of the individual game titles but the Amico seems positioned to be something of a dark horse in the race for consumer’s dollars this upcoming holiday season. We’ll see how it all shakes out when the Intellivision Amico goes on sale on October 10.
