Following the recent addition of Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Deadline brings word that Golden Globe nominee Michael Stuhlbarg has officially signed on to reunite with Call Me by Your Name co-star Timothée Chalamet and director Luca Guadagnino in the upcoming romantic horror feature Bones & All. The project marks the acclaimed Italian filmmaker’s first U.S. set movie, which had just started its production in the Ohio Tri-State area.
In addition to Stuhlbarg, the project will also get to reunite Guadagnino with We Are Who We Are stars Chloe Sevigny and Francesca Scorsese as well as Suspiria actress Jessica Harper. André Holland (Selma) and Halloween director David Gordon Green have also been tapped to join the cast. The six new additions will officially be joining Chalamet and Taylor Russell (Escape Room), who are leading the coming-of-age film as Maren and Lee, respectively.

Based on Camille DeAngelis’ 2015 novel, Bones & All is being described as a coming-of-age romantic horror story that centers around a young woman named Maren Yearly as she goes on a cross-country trip in search of her father, whom she had never met before. She hopes that by finding her father she will finally have answers to why she has the urge to kill and eat the people she loves.

The film adaptation will see Russell’s Maren meeting Chalamet’s Lee, described as an intense and disenfranchised drifter, as they join together for a thousand-mile odyssey that takes them through the back roads, hidden passages, and trap doors of Ronald Reagan’s America. But despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and to a final stand that will determine whether their love can survive their otherness.

Bones & All will be directed and produced by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay adapted by Dave Kajganich. Production is currently underway, with no distributor still attached to the project. The film adaptation marks the second collaboration between Chalamet and Guadagnino, who are reuniting after four years since 2017’s acclaimed coming-of-age drama Call Me By Your Name which launched the 25-year-old actor into stardom.
This project is a production by A Frenesy Film Company and Per Capita Productions, with Italian companies The Apartment Pictures, Enzio Ricci’s 3 Marys, Memo, Tender Stories, Adler, Elafood, Elafilm, Manila, Serfis and Wise financing the film. Producers are Kajganich, Capita’s Theresa Park, Frenesy’s Marco Morabito, Memo’s Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Gabriele Moratti, The Apartment Pictures’ Lorenzo Mieli, and Cor Cordium’s Peter Spears. It will be executive produced by Giovanni Corrado and Raffaella Viscardi.
