The legendary Lupin the Third series is coming back. TMS Entertainment announced that Lupin the Third: Part VI will debut later this year to celebrate the series’ 50th anniversary.
The series follows the titular thief, who is also joined by the samurai Goemon, the sharpshooter Daisuke Jigen, and the femme fatal that isn’t afraid to double-cross him, Fujiko Mine. They’re generally chased by Interpol officer Koichi Zenigata, who never gets his man.

Lupin the Third: Part VI will be helmed by Eiji Suganama, who worked on Lupin III: Prison of the Past. Meanwhile, Takahiro Okura will lead the series composition and Hiroki Marufuji (Lupin III: Goodbye Partner) will design characters. Finally, Yuji Ohno will compose the music.

The original manga was created by Monkey Punch and has inspired five previous anime series, plus the spinoff Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. There have been multiple theatrical films including the critically acclaimed Castle of Cagliostro and over a dozen anime specials. The last anime in the series began in 2018 and was aired on Toonami in North America while it initially aired subtitled on Crunchyroll.
The first anime adaptation debuted on October 24, 1971, so later this year will mark 50 years since it began. While the manga predates it as it began in 1967.
