Sega Announces Three Sonic Games, Two For Next Year

Sonic games

Sega announced three new Sonic games during its Sonic Central stream.

The biggest news was at the end of the stream, which showed a new Sonic Team-developed 3D Sonic game. It was only a short clip of Sonic running through a forest, so there isn’t much in terms of details. However, the game is confirmed for a 2022 release. It will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

As for more immediate gaming, a remaster of Sonic Colors called Sonic Colors: Ultimate will release later this year. Arriving on September 7, this is a high definition version of the well-regarded Nintendo Wii title. Those that pre-order a physical copy will get a “Baby Sonic keychain.” It will arrive on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Finally, a compilation called Sonic Origins will release next year. It will at least include Sonic the HedgehogSonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. This backs up a listing from earlier this week. Previously, it was claimed that a new collection would launch that would contain remasters of both the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 2, using Christian Whitehead’s Star Engine, formerly known as Retro Engine. Expect more details later this year.
